The Horticultural Grant Programmes aims to provide financial support to people or organisations to deliver horticultural schemes or projects within their local community, with the permission of the landowner. Only properly constituted community, voluntary, and charitable groups operating in Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough are eligible to apply. What is the maximum amount of funding available? Each successful applicant can receive up to £1,500 in grant funding. What types of projects are eligible for funding? Projects must involve horticultural activities on land accessible to the public, such as community gardens, sensory plots, or planting schemes. At least 50% of the expenditure must be for plants. What are some examples of eligible expenditure? Eligible costs include site preparation, tools, plants, containers, seating, and relevant training such as health and safety courses. What costs are ineligible under this grant? Ineligible costs include salaries, volunteer expenses, promotional materials, signage, garden visits, insurance, and any items unrelated to the project. What documents are required to apply? Applicants must submit a constitution, a list of current committee members, a recent bank statement, and minutes from the last AGM or public meeting (within 15 months). When should the proposed projects take place? Projects must take place between 1 April 2026 and 31 March 2027 . Activities outside this timeframe will not be eligible. How are applications assessed and scored? Applications are scored on eligibility, need for financial support, project objectives (environmental and community benefits), and how the project supports volunteers. A minimum score of 60% is required for success. What happens if the application is successful? Successful applicants will receive a Letter of Offer and must return it within 10 days. Payments are split: 50% upfront and 50% after approval of the final project claim with receipts and bank statements. Can applicants get feedback or appeal a decision?
